المستخلص

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the impact of social media addiction on youth attitudes, focusing on the cognitive, behavioral, and affective components of their attitudes. The research explores how addiction to social media platforms influences key factors such as self-esteem, impulsivity, depression, and fear of missing out (FoMo) among young individuals.

Design/methodology/approach: A mixed-method approach was utilized, incorporating both primary and secondary data. An extensive review of existing literature provided the foundation for the study, while primary data were collected through in-depth interviews with a therapist and a structured online survey of 289 respondents. The quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS and Smart PLS software to measure the relationships between social media addiction and youth attitudes.

Findings: The findings reveal that social media addiction significantly affects youth attitudes across multiple dimensions. Specifically, variables such as self-esteem, impulsivity, depression, and FoMo have measurable impacts on how young people perceive and react to their social environments. The study highlights the complexities of these relationships and their broader implications for youth behavior.

Originality/value: This research offers novel insights into the understudied domain of social media addiction's impact on youth attitudes, particularly within an Egyptian context. The integration of both qualitative and quantitative methods adds depth to the analysis, offering valuable contributions to the growing body of knowledge on social media addiction and its psychological effects.
